Set in beautiful Hampshire countryside, South Winchester is a splendid Dave Thomas and Peter Alliss-designed course in two loops of nine holes that provides a brilliantly entertaining challenge.

South Winchester is one do those courses that you never get bored with, regardless of how many times you play it. The course undulates between grassy slopes and negotiates its way around several lakes, offering easy walking and excellent views.
The ground is chalk based so is very quick drying, making it particularly good for winter golf. The thoughtfully placed mounding, bunkering and the need for length as well as accuracy to score well combine to give your golf game a fair but challenging examination. The layout, which can be stretched to over 7,000 yards, feels expansive and generally quite open, with many excellent holes throughout. Big hitters will enjoy the usually good-width fairways, but they need to be wary of the many hazards along the way.
Although the course is set in 210 acres, the option of playing fewer than 18 holes is always available as the clubhouse is centrally situated near the 9th green and overlooking the 18th green. With wonderful views over rural Hampshire, especially from the back-nine, this is one of Hampshire's lesser-known modern gems that, in our opinion, is well taking time out to play.
