The Sporting Club Berlin is arguably Germany's leading and most comprehensive golfing destination, and while its first course was completed in 1995 by Arnold Palmer, it is Nick Faldo's 1997 creation that has gleaned the majority of the international acclaim.
Despite the indigenous terrain being relatively flat and devoid of any noteworthy features around which Faldo could create his course, the best British player of the modern era used his considerable nous to create a masterpiece. The shape and character of many holes is dictated by the outstanding bunkering, in addition to the subtly shaped and contoured fairways.
The 7,000 yard brute has already been selected for the German Open, and its stock will surely only rise in coming years, ensuring that the Sporting Club Berlin remains high on the list of ‘must play' courses on the continent.
