Since 1926, when the Open Championship was first staged at Royal Lytham & St Annes, the Old Links has served as a final qualifying venue, and has seen some famous names pound its fairways.
The great Bobby Jones is one such illustrious visitor, and he was reportedly so impressed with the unorthodox 9th hole that he made detailed sketches and measurements of the par 3, in order that he could reproduce it in his native United States.
St Annes Old Links is an enchanting golfing destination, where the only thing that seems to matter is the golf course and the elements; there is little fuss, and nothing pretentious about the club, but the course itself is a true gem, and one that should be experienced on a really memorable golf tour in Lancashire.
