ELIE LINKS

Location: Elie, Fife, 12 miles South of St Andrews  KY9 1AS

Elie's links has been shared by a number of clubs throughout its long history, and the site is one whose rich heritage is matched by few. Golf has been played on this seaside plot since the 15th century, and it remains a charming destination.

The site is inherently linked to the life of James Braid, who was born in Elie itself in 1870 and was a member of the Thistle Club from an early age. Braid himself believed that Elie's 13th hole was the finest in the country, and local legend states that he said it required "twa guid dunts wi' a wood" to reach the green into the prevailing wind, with the putting surface nestled under the Kincraig cliffs.

Elie's landscape is extremely natural, studded with humps, hollows and ridges, and the challenge is an extremely varied one. The most entertaining holes, and certainly the most beautiful ones, are those after the turn that wind down to the sea front. From here, spectacular views of the East Neuk shoreline are the icing on the cake of an incredible golfing experience.

Elie is one of Fife's most entertaining and endearing golf courses, and its immense history oozes from every pore. This charming links is much loved, and is a firm favourite as part of a Fife golf tour.
