Ballyconneely, situated on a rugged peninsula jutting out into the Atlantic, is one of Ireland's most remarkable golfing destinations. Founded in 1973 by Irish golf legend Eddie Hackett, Connemara is renowned as a links course of brutal difficulty, measuring more than 7,200 yards from the championship tees.
Standing on the wind-swept tees at Connemara, golfers will be presented with a minefield of craggy rocks and punitive rough, in the middle of which are scattered fairways and greens. Hackett's design is, however, far from arbitrary; around Connemara there are some holes of true splendour.
Whilst it may be remote, Connemara is an awe-inspiring destination, well worthy of the pilgrimage to the rugged shores of County Galway.
