The Northwest Golf Club’s rugged links have often been favourably compared to St Andrew’s, emphasising the amazing quality on offer at Donegal’s hidden gem. Established in 1981, the golf course at the Northwest club is wedged between the sea and the towering Mouldy Mountain, and like St Andrews, its charms are not immediately evident.

Upon first glance, Northwest golf course seems understated, but it is only as visiting golfers negotiate the picturesque links that the perils reveal themselves. The sandy turf is carved up by great humps and hollows, whose awkwardness is only abetted by the treacherous coastal winds.
While it may fly under the radar in the local region, given the proximity of the world renowned Ballyliffin, the Northwest Golf Club is a true gem, and deserves to be part of a terrific golf tour in this charming corner of Ireland.
