Purdis Heath is better known by many as Ipswich Golf Club, and is an institution of golf in East Anglia. The club itself was founded in 1895, but the most important date in Purdis Heath's history was 1928, when today's main championship course was unveiled.

Ipswich Golf Club also has a lovely nine-hole course which was inaugurated in 1968, but the main attraction is the championship layout. This, in common with many of East Anglia's most established courses - including Thorpeness - was designed by James Braid, one of the United Kingdom's most celebrated course architects.
The main course presents a rich and varied challenge, and is laid out amid a stunning setting; the club has won a number of awards commemorating its efforts to preserve the local wildlife habitat.
The ever-changing wind conditions make Purdis Heath a constant test, which is also why it is so dearly loved in the local area. The course was actually constructed by Hawtree and J.H. Taylor, the five-times Open Champion who also featured in the inaugural match.
Many great names have contributed to the production of Ipswich's leading club, and the resultant Purdis Heath can be a gem in the heart of a Suffolk golf tour.
