MARRIOTT ST. PIERRE HOTEL & COUNTRY CLUB 4*
Location: St. Pierre Park, Chepstow, Monmouthshire, 19 miles North of Bristol, 33 miles East of Cardiff NP16 6YAThe two excellent golf courses at St. Pierre have been instrumental in the establishment of the resort as one of the best in Wales and beyond.
Old Course
St. Pierre's Old Course is one the best parkland layouts in the country, and is a recognised tournament host, having welcomed the top LPGA professionals for the Solheim Cup in 1996. The course has now matured nicely into a genuine challenge for even the best golfers, with some particularly memorable holes. A round on the old reaches a crescendo with the superb closing two, where visitors must negotiate the 17th green, almost surrounded by an expansive water hazard, and the final hole's difficult elevated green.
Mathern Course
The neighbouring Mathern Course, although considerably shorter than the Old, is an extremely enjoyable layout. It is parkland in style, but players must also tackle the mature trees that provide obstacles on many holes. Opened in 1975, the Mathern continues to delight visitors with some very good golf, and even better views of the surrounding Monmouthshire countryside.
