Skellig Bay is part of the extraordinary group of courses around the Ring of Kerry, and is among the best new layouts to be created in recent decades. The links course is perched over the Atlantic shores, and is a spectacular place to enjoy a round during a tour of this amazing part of Ireland.
Not far from Waterville itself, one of the Emerald Isle's most renowned courses, Skellig Bay has shot to fame in its short existence, thanks to the amazing design completed by architect Ron Kirby.
Kirby is best known for his collaboration with the late Joe Carr that spawned the remarkable Old Head at Kinsale, and this inspiration is evident at his latest creation. Skellig Bay opened for play in 2006, and spans land across which were strung over 8,000 metres of ancient walls. Some of these were removed, while others have been worked into the layout.
This unique and special golfing venue is a welcome addition to the landscape of County Kerry, so be sure to experience it during your next golf tour of the south-west and Killarney.
