The golf club at Ormskirk was established in 1899, and two years later the course was extended to the 18 holes in existence today by local legend, and Open Championship winner, Harold Hilton.
The rural setting ensures that golfing at Ormskirk is a tranquil and relaxing experience, but the course is no walk in the park. The locals will tell you that surviving the front nine is crucial to success around this West Lancashire layout, as the tougher holes are certainly on the opening half. Providing that you can avoid the water hazards, there are birdie opportunities on the closing stretch on this most enjoyable parkland course.
Whilst Ormskirk may not have the fearsome reputation of some of West Lancashire's links courses, it certainly offers a good challenge, set within a delightful environment.
