SOUTHPORT & AINSDALE GOLF CLUB
Location: Ainsdale, Southport, Lancashire, 3 miles SW of Southport PR8 3LGThe revered James Braid conceived the original layout at Southport and Ainsdale, which in its history has hosted two Ryder Cups, in 1933 and 1937, in addition to Open Qualifying on many occasions, and numerous national amateur events.
Braid's creation is set amidst the sand dunes of England's best golfing stretch, and demands patient, accurate ball-striking, as the penalties for straying off-line are severe. There are many superb holes to negotiate at Southport and Ainsdale, not least the charming par-3s such as the 8th and 13th.
As a quintessential links track, lovers of seaside golf should ensure a visit during a tour of Southport's magnificent courses.
