Downfield, designed by the legendary James Braid, is a little known parkland course, but those familiar with it will testify to its amazing quality. Dundee’s hidden gem is used for qualifying when the Open Championship is staged at nearby Carnoustie, which is testament to Braid’s terrific layout.

James Braid called on advice from K.C. Cotton in formulating his 1932 design, and the duo were fortunate to be presented with a magnificent blank canvas; over 100 different species of woodland set the backdrop for this parkland delight. The 6,800 yard par 73 layout is an exacting test of ball striking, while subtle intricacies of the ditches and streams demands precision accuracy when approaching the greens.

While it is often in the shade of more illustrious local names like Carnoustie, Downfield is fantastic layout, and its superb value for money makes it a great component of a golf tour around Dundee.
