KILSPINDIE GOLF CLUB
Location: Aberlady, East Lothian, 18 miles East of Edinburgh city centre EH32 0QDEstablished in 1898, as a result of design from Ben Sayers and Alex Mackenzie Ross, Kilspindie is a delightful, classic links, situated next to Aberlady, on the rugged coastline of the Firth of Forth.
Power is certainly not the most important factor here, where considerable trouble can be found not far from the fairways. Kilspindie outlines its quirkiness right from the off, beginning with a tough par-3 which faces across the Forth to the Kingdom of Fife.
Arguably the best holes are those at the start of the round, whit a succession of tough holes tracking the coast towards Edinburgh. Generally played into a considerable prevailing wind, these opening holes can ruin a scorecard, especially as it is not too hard to find the rocky beach.
The signature hole is the idyllic 8th, an exquisite par-3 played across Gosford Bay which demands nerves of steel and a brave heart. Kilspindie is well worth a visit for a taste of genuine Scottish links during a golf break in East Lothian.
