LONGNIDDRY GOLF CLUB
Mary Queen of Scots, a known golfer, was said to be keen on playing at Longniddry in the 1560s, and while the golf course today may be slightly different, the pedigree of the land is undoubted.
Both James Braid and Phillip Mackenzie Ross have been asked to amend Harry S. Colt's original design, and the outcome is a fascinating combination of parkland and links terrain.
Though not long by modern standards, the course is exposed to the coastal winds, and is extremely penal for those who stray off-line; the trouble is not always the same, with towering Scots Pines, sea-buckthorn, gorse and brutal rough all await the inaccurate.
Scheduling a stop at Longniddry during your golf break will guarantee an interesting adventure for golfers of all abilities, on a course that has hosted both the British Seniors and Open Championship Qualifying.
