Royal Musselburgh is the starting point for East Lothian's fabled stretch of top class links golf, and is a renowned and venerable golfing institution. The club originally shared the nine holes at Musselburgh's Old Links, and it was not until 1924 that today's course was inaugurated.

The club itself is the fifth oldest in the world, and its members compete for the Old Club Cup, the most historic championship still played for today, boasting a heritage dating back to 1774.
