ROYAL ASHDOWN FOREST GOLF CLUB
Location: Forest Row, East Sussex, 4 miles SE of East Grinstead RH18 5LRFounded in 1888, Royal Ashdown Forest is now ranked by Golf World as one of the top 100 golf clubs in the United Kingdom. The Old and West Courses are both tremendous tests of golf, underlining Royal Ashdown's reputation as one of the great traditional English golf venues.
Old Course
The Old Course is regularly chosen by the Royal & Ancient for Open Championship qualifying, and also recently played host to the English and Spanish teams for an amateur international fixture. The course has changed little since its inception many decades ago, as the outstanding character of the landscape is the key to this fantastic layout. Unusually, there is not a single bunker, but the clever design utilises the extraordinary slopes and undulations of the land, while the small greens are difficult to hold.
West Course
The West Course was also inaugurated over 100 years ago, and shares the same magnificent heathland turf as the Old. Although the West is significantly shorter than its neighbour, it is a championship course in its own right, demanding accuracy and prudent course management above all else. The club has recently opened its own separate club house, underlining the fact the Royal Ashdown Forest is a comprehensive golfing venue of the highest quality.
