It is rare for a city golf course to be set in such a fabulous natural setting, but Haggs Castle is one of those rare instances of beautiful urban golf. Though just a few short miles from the heart of Glasgow, this former European Tour venue has a lovely isolation, as well as a monumental golf course.

The classic parkland layout measure 6,424 yards from the tournament, which probably explains why it is no longer used for the most prestigious professional championships. There is no doubting the quality of the layout though, which is a serious test for every golfer, aside from the beauty of the surroundings.
The landscape is very flat, so the greens are predominantly raised, posing difficulties with club selection, as well as demanding great creativity around the putting surface. Haggs Castle is a Scottish gem that you may expect to find tucked in a remote parcel of parkland – however, it is in the city centre, and should certainly be included in any good Glasgow golf tour.
