Carton House has emerged in recent years as one of the most exquisite golfing destinations in Ireland and beyond, as a result of two terrific, well-maintained courses, and an unrivalled level of service.
Montgomerie Course
Having been Europe's finest golfer for many years, Colin Montgomerie has now established himself as a major player in the world of golf course design. His creation at Carton House can only be described as a masterpiece. Taking his influence from his favourite courses, including Royal Melbourne, Royal Troon and Turnberry, Colin has placed the maximum emphasis on strategic bunkering, which he believes is the key to building a good, fair challenge.
Every hole, and its respective bunkering, is designed with the direction of the prevailing wind in mind; almost all of them should play in a cross-wind most of the time, and as such, the hazards are positioned appropriately. With the vicious fescue skirting the fairways, and fantastic putting surfaces, it is no surprise that the Montgomerie has already become a respected tournament venue, having hosted the 2005 and 2006 Nissan Irish Opens.
O'Meara Course
The O'Meara Course may not have the reputation of Monty's gem, but the 1998 Masters and Open Champion has constructed a worthy supporter. Skirting the banks of the River Rye, which come into play on the back nine, this is a lush parkland test, set in a truly idyllic scene.
Situated just half an hour from Dublin, the stunning Palladian house is situated amidst over 1000 acres of land, and has been visited over the years by Queen Victoria and Grace Kelly. The minimalist interior space is in stark contrast to the untouched grandeur of the façade, and the antique furnishing of the public spaces.
The hotel itself boasts 165 superb bedrooms, all equipped to guarantee guests the best in comfort and luxury. The superb facilities include king-size beds, power showers, WiFi access, flat screen TV, a sofa, and air-conditioning.
For a special occasion, there are also 18 suites, include the Lady Emily Suite, with its own private sitting room overlooking Carton House's awe-inspiring golf courses. With a range of leisure pursuits available on the estate, and a fantastic array of dining options, you could not ask for any more from a golf break.
Hotel guests can take advantage of guided walks, fishing and nature trails. Alternatively, relax in the opulent spa, where you can de-stress, renew and revive in the serene setting of the purpose-built treatment rooms.
The fantastic estate was home to the 19th Earl of Kildare, and the construction itself dates back to 1739. Designed by the renowned Richard Castles, the magnificent building is set prominently amidst one of Ireland's most beautiful country estates.
Carton House has been recognised by the prestigious ‘Committed to Green Award'.
The Linden Tree Restaurant, with its cushioned walls, marble floors and leather seats offers a luxurious dining experience.
Head back to the glamourous 1920s for a mixed drink in the vintage-styled Cocktail Bar.
