The resort at Five Lakes is home to two superb golf courses, which has helped it to establish a reputation as one of the premier golfing destinations in the East of England.
The Lakes Course
The Lakes is the feature course at Five Lakes, and is a regular host to an annual regional PGA event, in addition to being selected for the prestigious Nick Faldo Challenge. The layout was conceived by European Tour legend Neil Coles, who has created the perfect resort course which is guaranteed to be an enjoyable experience for all golfers.
There are however numerous hazards to test even the best players, particularly the abundant water which guards no less than 10 holes. From the championship tees, the Lakes measures 6,751 yards, and is one of the golfing highlights of the region.
The Links Course
The Links is slightly shorter than the Lakes Course, and is the perfect complement. The Links is undoubtedly an easier proposition than its neighbour, but should certainly not be underestimated, as there are still a number of strategically positioned water hazards and penal sand traps.
Should you manage to avoid these obstacles, scoring well should be guaranteed as the slick greens, which the course is famous for, make putting a real pleasure. The Links only serves to underline Five Lakes' reputation as one of the East's best golf resorts.
The 194-bedroom Five Lakes hotel is the complete modern package. With unrivalled conference, banqueting and leisure facilities on-site, the hotel is equipped to ensure the maximum comfort of its visitors.
The guest rooms are comprised of a roughly equal split of standard units based in the hotel, and village bedrooms, which are located in the ten adjacent houses. In addition, there are a number of luxurious executive rooms and suites which are ideal to mark a special occasion. The modern façade is reflected inside, where all guests will benefit from satellite television and complimentary wireless broadband access.
These features are delightfully off-set by the resort's surroundings - no less than 320 acres of delightful Essex countryside, making Five Lakes the perfect place to relax, whether you are travelling on business, leisure, or better yet, a golf break.
In the Country Club at Five Lakes, guests will find a complex equipped with facilities to rival any in the region. Inside are a superb swimming pool, steam room, whirlpool bath and sauna, in addition to the state-of-the-art gym and aerobics studio. Five Lakes is also a mecca for lovers of racket sports, with tennis, squash and badminton courts available throughout the year. In the superb spa, Clarins and ESPA products are utilised to enhance the countless health and beauty treatments available in this therapeutic sanctuary.
One of the most attractive features of the Five Lakes Resort is its proximity to the M25. This easy access makes it a fantastic choice for a golf and leisure break for all those travelling from the London area.
The monster 6th, at 564 yards, is one of the most daunting tests on the Lakes. Make sure of your yardage to ensure you avoid the treacherous stream that bisects the fairway.
The Camelot Restaurant is renowned for its fine cuisine, and has been awarded 2 AA Rosettes for its use of fine ingredients like fresh fish from the Essex coast and the famous Blackwater oysters.
Bejerano's Brasserie serves well-cooked contemporary international cuisine with a distinctive British accent.
The Squires Bar is an elegant place for a cocktail and a snack, while the Sports Bar is a relaxed and welcoming environment for a post-golf beer.
