- 1 Round at Wensum course
- 1 Round at Valley course
1 Night, 2 Rounds
Set in 350 acres of Norfolk countryside, Wensum Valley Golf and Country Club is an easy, fuss-free option for a UK golf break, with three courses on-site and a hotel you can walk back to after your round. Better still, you're only about 15 minutes from Norwich and within easy reach of the Norfolk coast if you fancy a change of scenery.
The star billing goes to the Wensum Course, a PGA EuroPro Tour host that asks you to plot your way around proper parkland golf. Trees tighten up the driving lines, water comes into play at the wrong moments and the bunkering is placed to catch anything slightly lazy. If you're travelling with mixed handicaps, the Valley Course is the friendlier option, with more breathing space from the tee and a layout that still rewards decent iron play. There's also a nine-hole loop for a warm-up, a quick extra spin, or settling any post-dinner grudge matches.
Off the course, you've got a solid leisure set-up including an indoor pool, sauna, steam room and gym, plus fishing and clay shooting for groups who want more than just 36 holes and a pint. All in, it's a strong pick for societies, pairs and corporate groups who want variety, comfort and straightforward logistics.
Who is this for?
Golfers and groups who want an easy Norfolk break with on-site golf, hotel comfort and a pool for post-round recovery.
Who is it best for?
Societies and mixed-ability groups who want two proper 18-hole options, plus a nine-hole add-on and a few off-course activities.

The Wensum Course hosted the 2011 YourGolfTravel.com European Championship and in doing so became the only course in Norfolk to have hosted a PGA Europro Tour event. Unsurprisingly then this challenging golf course requires powerful and accurate hitting from the tee. The high quality putting greens are well protected by numerous water hazards and the course is also exposed to the elements meaning the wind can play a big part in your battle with Old Man Par.
More so than the Wensum Course the Valley Course requires accuracy from the tee as extremely penal rough awaits any misplaced shots. A common feature as Wensum Valley is the top class putting surfaces so hitting the greens in regulation should give the golfer a chance to score well by holing putts.
The hotel has 90 en-suite rooms overlooking the surrounding countryside. They're practical, comfortable and ideal for golf groups, with complimentary Wi-Fi, direct-dial telephones and flat-screen TVs, plus enough space to get kit dried out and ready for the next day. Don't expect boutique luxury, but do expect a clean, well-run base that does the job between tee times.
The Valley Restaurant is the main dining room, with big windows looking out over the estate. Menus lean seasonal, with a rotating specials board, so you'll usually find a couple of local or time-of-year options alongside the reliable crowd-pleasers. It works well for breakfast before an early tee time and for a relaxed dinner when the scorecards have been put away. Expect hearty options that suit golfers coming off the course, from traditional mains to lighter plates if you're pacing yourself across multiple rounds.
If you'd rather keep things informal, the bar is open throughout the day for light bites and drinks. It's a sociable spot for groups, with pool, darts and full-size snooker tables, plus Sky Sports on screen when you want to follow the golf or football. The atmosphere stays relaxed and easy, making it simple to mix with other groups or keep to your own corner.
You've got an indoor swimming pool, sauna, steam room and spa pool for a proper soak after 18 or 36 holes, as well as a well-equipped gym. For a bit of variety, the venue also offers fishing and clay pigeon shooting, and there are conference facilities for corporate days and team weekends. If you're planning a society trip or a corporate outing that needs to blend golf with a bit of business, Wensum Valley handles it without feeling too formal.
Wensum Valley sits just outside the town of Taverham, a 15-minute drive from Norwich and easily reached via the A47. If you're travelling by train, Norwich Station is the nearest stop, with taxis or car hire available for the short onward journey to the club.

Good stay had by all participating in the trip.whilst beds a little on the narrow side, rooms were comfortable and well organised in relation to the facilities on site. Some aspects in general decor of accommodation need a lick of paint and updating, but overall was value for money.

After 2 weeks without rain the fairways were very hard, not surprising. Greens and tees were in good condition with the greens being very fast with some really interesting slopes.
