The World Match Play Championship is established as one of Europe's premier golfing events when 16 of the world's top players go on show and after 44 years at its spiritual home of Wentworth, the World Match Play Championship resurfaced in a new guise in southern Spain in 2011. Next year the event will move on again to an up and coming yet undoubtedly world class golfing destination.
As we look towards the 2013 World Match Play Championship, next year, we will see the host venue change again to the stunning Thracian Cliffs in Bulgaria. This will mark the first time a full European Tour event has ever been played in Bulgaria and the Gary Player designed Signature Course, set perched on rugged coastal cliffs, beside the vast blue of the Black Sea, has been hailed as one of the most dramatic golf courses on earth; perfect for a series of matchplay bouts between the finest golfers in the world.
After the event lost HSBC as its title sponsor after five years, Volvo stepped in, and with their new golf strategy of bringing the Championship to geographical areas for Volvo’s businesses, the championship will rotate between a select few host destinations with Thracian Cliffs being the first.
