Wychwood Park Hotel and Golf Club sits among the most popular golf resorts in the North West, pairing a championship golf course with a modern hotel that was fully refurbished in 2019. Just five minutes from Junction 16 on the M6, the resort enjoys an enviable position with scenic views across the Cheshire countryside, making it easily accessible whether you're driving up from the Midlands, down from the North West, or across from Wales.
The golf course has earned serious credentials, regularly hosting European Tour Qualifying School and Europro Tour events. Critics rate it as an impressive test capable of challenging even the very best players, yet the layout remains fair and enjoyable for mid-handicappers willing to think their way around. It's the sort of modern championship design where sensible course management matters, especially if you're trying to plot your way in from the tee and avoid short-siding yourself around the greens. Expect a track that rewards accuracy over brute force, with enough design bite to keep good players honest.
Within 20 miles you'll find Alton Towers, Delamere Forest and Trentham Gardens, giving non-golfers or rest-day options beyond the fairways. For societies and corporate groups, the on-site meeting facilities make it easy to combine work and a round without juggling venues.
Off the course, the resort delivers comfortable modern accommodation, a well-regarded restaurant and The Claret Jug bar, where you can grab a cold beer and catch live sport on the big screen. The hotel bar offers pool tables with views across the 18-hole course toward the Welsh hills, perfect for winding down after your round.
Who is this for?
Golfers seeking a quality championship test within easy reach of the M6, societies and groups wanting a full-service resort with meeting facilities, and anyone combining golf with family visits to nearby attractions.
Who is it best for?
Mid-to-low handicappers looking to play a proper tour-standard course without travelling far, corporate groups needing flexible meeting space alongside golf, and golfers from across the UK who value accessibility and a complete resort experience rather than just a course and a bed.

Wychwood Park is generally regarded as one of the premier inland courses in the north of England. At 7,209 yards from the championship markers, the course is set up to host professional tournaments and undoubtedly will challenge the game's best.
This is however a resort course, and as such has an array of tees, ensuring that all golfers can enjoy a round at Wychwood. The construction of the golf course utilised the latest in technology, including a computerised system for irrigation, while the teeing areas and sweeping greens were constructed in line with USGA principles.
The majority of visitors to Wychwood leave in awe of the course’s brilliant design. There are no weak holes: each has its own character and challenge – particularly the par 3s, many of which would look at home on some of great golf courses in the country. There are numerous obstacles and hazards to be negotiated en-route here, not least the constant threat of water.
Wychwood Park is an extremely adaptable golf course, making it very attractive as a golf break destination for players of all standards.
Signature Hole: 17th – Par 3, 216 yards
There are a number of terrific and unique holes at Wychwood Park, but the 17th is certainly the most beautiful. Don’t be fooled by the elevated tee box, which can make the hole appear shorter than it is, as a full carry of almost 200 yards is needed to clear the water from the back pegs. This is a gorgeous golf hole that will evoke memories of the 16th at Augusta National.

The hotel offers 113 modern, luxurious bedrooms, all refurbished in 2019 to a contemporary standard that feels fresh rather than tired. The rooms are well appointed with everything you'd expect from a quality golf resort, and the dedicated staff are always on hand to sort any requests without fuss.
The restaurant serves mouth-watering cuisine in a lively evening atmosphere, with a wide variety of dishes on the dinner-inclusive menu. The laid-back ambience makes it easy to relax after a long day on the fairways, whether you're celebrating birdies or commiserating over a back nine that got away. For breakfast, help yourself to the all-you-can-eat buffet featuring all your hot and cold morning favourites. One thing is certain, you won't go hungry on the golf course.
Post-round, The Claret Jug is the obvious meeting point for a pint and whatever match is on the big screen. Named with a nod to golf's most famous trophy, it's the sort of place where you can settle in with a cold beer, watch live sport and swap stories about the round. If you fancy something a bit more competitive, the hotel bar has a pool table and cracking views back across the course towards the Welsh hills.
The resort's location makes it ideal for golfers travelling from across England and beyond. Whether you're driving up from the Midlands, down from the North West, or across from Wales, Wychwood Park is straightforward to reach and offers everything you need under one roof: quality golf, comfortable rooms, good food and a proper bar. For societies, corporate groups or simply a weekend away with friends, it's a solid choice that delivers without any unnecessary complications.

The hotel was lovely and the food was excellent. The only problem we had was the bar staff in the evening were very grumpy and locked up and removed us at midnight which was a shame.

I've been to Wychwood 3 times previous to this trip and all were good. This time I felt and my party did also that the food served was rather bland even down to the English Breakfast.

The course was absolutely exceptional in fantastic nick and a tough challenging course but extremely enjoyable to play. We played Friday Saturday and paid 2 separate rates for buggy hire (£40 on Fri £45 on Sat) which I would absolutely recommend as its a big course it felt like pricing also altered in the claret Jug (19th Hole) The gents toilet was out of order throughout our stay and with a single disabled toilet made available. On both Friday and Saturday we got held up by slow play from groups in front of us despite the fact that there was a 40 minute gap between start times on Saturday as well. Which was a frustration but didn't take away from the excellent course

Course very wide but lots of hazards Greens quick beautiful setting only negative we were booked to play 18 holes but only did 9 because of to many 4 balls in froßnt which meant very slow instead of a 4 hour 30 minute round would of been over 5 hours 30 minutes

Th slowest round of golf i have ever played, course is great condition but the pro shop was particularly useless. Seemed to be multiple groups with different issues from poor communication. Tee times, missing buggy reservations and handling hotel check ins was so badly organised it was laughable. The only golf trip destination I would say i would never return to.

The course is tricky and a several of our higher handicap players struggled. We overcame this by adjusting their handicaps for day 2. The only real -ve for the courts was that on the Sunday it was pretty obvious that the greens had not been cut. Once they’d been cut (Monday) they were good.

The layout of the course was superb. The greens at all corporate venues seem to be like this to be fair so it wouldn’t be fair to say these were abnormally poor. But they was the weak link on an otherwise fantastic course.

The course itself wasn't as good as previous 3 times I've played and after our first round on the Friday I made a complaint about the Greens to the shop assistants but they said they couldn't do anything as the Manager who could was in on the Sunday, as they were awful, with a lot of patches, very bumpy and the tramlines directing the golf ball a different way. One of the party even hit a large rock in one of the bunkers hidden in the sand! Due to the above none of the party stayed to play a third round included in the price. Disappointing to say the least!
