A hole-by-hole video guide to PGA Catalunya

The European Tour heads to the north east corner of Spain this week for its national championship, the Open de España. As the sole event on this year’s European Tour calendar to be held in Spain, it’s fitting that the tournament returns to the much revered Stadium Course at PGA Catalunya Resort.

Framed by the Girona Mountains, this Catalan cracker is truly a sight to behold. The course was designed by two former Ryder Cup veterans in Neil Coles and Angel Gallardo with the hope of becoming a Ryder Cup venue for the Seve Ballesteros-led tournament of 1997. While Valderrama took bragging rights that year, almost two decades on, the Stadium Course is considered the best golf course in Spain and one of the finest in the whole of Continental Europe.

But be warned, for the course is as challenging as it is beautiful. A myriad of bunkers, dramatic water hazards and mature pines can make fairways seem like single-lane roads and greens like postage stamps as you weave up and down the sloping hillsides.

Ahead of this week’s Spanish Open, get to know this outstanding golf course with the resort’s unique hole-by-hole flyover and course guide.
