In the past 10 years or so Turkey has developed into one of the most popular and sought-after golf destinations in the world – mainly down to its interesting history, friendly culture and magnificent all-year-round climate.

The focus of golf in Turkey is without a doubt the charming town of Belek and its surrounding areas. The town, which is just a stone’s throw from the warm waters of the Mediterranean, is able to boast a superb range of golfing facilities which has meant that in recent years it is starting to rival the likes of the Algarve for numbers of golfing tourists annually. As a result of Belek being heavily reliant on the tourism industry, there are few holiday destinations that can offer a warmer welcome – with all staff going to great lengths to ensure your stay is as relaxing and comfortable as possible.

Today there are many excellent resorts, hotels, golf courses, and world-class service is common-place wherever you may sleep, eat or golf. “But which should I choose?” I hear you cry. Well one of the most highly regarded, and popular, complexes among our customers is the Cornelia Diamond Golf Resort & Spa. A 5* establishment which provides everything you might require from a golf break destination. So let’s take a look to see what all the fuss is about.

Accommodation at the hotel comes in the form of 571 standard rooms, as well as a number of suites including the Diamond Suites and the Presidential Suite. One of the great things about the Cornelia Diamond is that even the basic rooms come lavishly equipped.  As standard they include a mini-bar, electronic safe, hairdryer, large en-suite bathroom, telephone, independent air-conditioning, complementary Wi-Fi connection, interactive & satellite LCD TV and a superb balcony which boast a sea view or overlooks the verdant golf course.

Even the standard rooms at the Cornelia will exceed your expectations.

Or if you’re looking for something a bit special then the Presidential Suite would be the perfect option.  Located on the top floor, the 700m2 suite boasts a magnificent sea view as well as three bedrooms, fully equipped kitchen, living room, salon with dining table for ten, indoor swimming pool with Jacuzzi, sea view Jacuzzi, sauna, four bathrooms, fitness corner, cocktail and lounge area, two separate sunbathing terraces and a spacious balcony with a direct sea view. Guests in the Presidential suite will also enjoy a 42” TV with home theatre system – perfect for watching the big match or even just a movie in the evening.

Celebrating a special occasion? Then you need to consider the Presidential Suite with its own private swimming pool.

The amazing hotel also boasts a staggering range of food and beverage options. There are a total of 8 A’la carte restaurants and 10 bars (2 of which are open 24 hours) to choose from, however in the winter this is reduced to 4 restaurants and 8 bars – there is also a €10 supplement to eat A’la carte. Each has their own individual twist. The Sapore hosts a taste of the Mediterranean, Sumach serves up an authentic taste of traditional Turkish cuisine and for something a little further away enjoy a meal at the Tai Pen for a far eastern meal with a unique twist.

You’ll find it almost impossible to experience all of the culinary delights at the Cornelia Diamond in just one stay.

The Crassula Spa also houses saunas, steam rooms, shock pool and Turkish Hamam.

Whilst you’re there you must make use of the traditional Turkish Bath – a truly relaxing experience.

The Cornelia Diamond Hotel is perfectly complemented by the Cornelia Golf Club – connected by a short ride in a regular shuttle. The course was laid out by the six time major champion Sir Nick Faldo and it also boasts a David Leadbetter golf academy which is why it is known as one of Belek’s most popular options for serious golfers.

Sir Nick called this: “an exceptional piece of land” and who could say otherwise? The course, which was an instant hit when it first opened, makes its way through a heavily pined and rather sandy area in Belek but looks mature, lush and certainly has the ‘wow’ factor.

Cornelia

The course was designed by the six time major champion Sir Nick Faldo.

Construction of the course, which was a first in Turkey for Sir Nick, began in early 2006 and, just nine months later the initial 18 holes opened for play. So you might be thinking that the course might look a little bit rough around the edges. However, I can assure you that, even just after it opened, the conditioning of the course is one of its biggest attractions. Today, 7 years later, it’s a true pleasure to behold.

The opening hole on the ‘Tiberius’ nine is relatively straightforward, but don’t be lulled into a false sense of security because the second hole, named ‘Corridor’, is just that – a par-5 which flows though an alley of trees doglegging two times from left to right. Another outstanding hole is the 7th, ‘Faldo’s Choice’, a drivable par-4 which has a green protected by trees – which have diverted many a tee shot.

Faldo’s creation is a serious test, especially when tackled from the championship tees, as it measures close to 7,000 yards.

The second nine is named ‘Sempronia’ (clearly continuing with the Roman theme), again it comprises of a set of gorgeous holes which will test every level of golfer. A pick of the bunch would have to be the 13th, named ‘Deception’. This charming par-4 turns right at the corner of a dogleg leaving a challenging approach to a heavily bunkered putting surface.

A third nine (named ‘Gaius’) was opened in June 2007, and this is possibly the best nine holes of the trio.

As well as the course, the golf complex also includes the David Leadbetter Golf Academy. So while you’re at the Cornelia Resort, why not take advantage of the world-class tuition and improve your golf game by booking yourself in for one of a range of programs.

And at packages from just £489, it also offers particularly good value for money considering this includes 7 Nights, 3 Rounds and is an all inclusive deal! So what are you waiting for? Book now!
