A welcome return for the British Masters to the European Tour schedule, and with Ian Poulter as tournament host, it won’t be short of publicity. It’s a tricky time of the year as the world’s best players fiddle with their schedules, but Poulter has still assembled a very strong field, even if it is short of being world class. The one surprising absentee is Poulter’s pal Justin Rose.
The venue is the tight, tree-lined Marquess course at Woburn, which very few players will have seen much of before this week. It should provide some spectacular golf, and the ticket sales have been very strong – showing that there is an audience for top quality golf in this country. Other than the BMW PGA, this is the only event in England all year.
