Golf in Portugal – Laranjal Course Voted Number 1

By September 22, 2011No Comments

Quinta do Lago HotelThe Algarve is crammed full of outstanding golf courses so deciding which one is the best in the land is not a straight forward task. Courses like the famous San Lorenzo, the Oceanico Old Course and the Royal Course at Vale do Lobo all could have represented the Algarve while the stunning Troia and the rugged links at Praia D’El Rey near Lisbon were also strong contenders for the top spot. However at the 2011 Portuguese Travel Awards only one course could be named the best in Portugal.

The awards were handed out on September the 9th and following a summer of public voting the Laranjal Course at Quinta do Lago came up trumps.

Laranjal-1

The Laranjal is the latest championship golf course to be built at the luxurious Quinta do Lago Golf Resort and in its short existence it has forged a formidable reputation as one of the finest golf courses in Europe. Jose Santana de Silva carved this spectacular course from the grounds of a former orange grove and the scenic location is perfectly complimented by the beautiful features of the course. Perfectly manicured, narrow fairways are lined by umbrella pines, cork oaks, orange trees and a number of tranquil lakes which cleverly form part of the water recycling system.

Measuring 7,065 yards from the back tees with a par of 72 this stunning Algarve golf course can pose a serious test for even the most talented players while a number of tee positions ensure it not out of reach for the higher handicappers out there.

Laranjal-2

The Laranjal Course is reason enough to pay Quinta do Lago a visit on your next Algarve golf break but it is not all this world class golf resort has to offer. Two other golf courses, the North and the South, make up one of the finest golfing trios in all of Europe and they are backed up by stunning five star luxury in the form of a fantastic hotel. Here travelling golfers can enjoy traditional Portuguese fare and world class Italian cuisine at the two on-site restaurants while away from the golf courses guests can make use of an impressive array of leisure facilities and services including tennis, horse riding, water sports, clay pigeon shooting and best of all a lavish spa which is simply perfect for washing away the stresses and strains of everyday life.

On top of everything Quinta do Lago has to offer it also boasts an envious location as the delightful restaurants and vibrant nightlife of Vilamoura are just a stone’s throw away. All in all Quinta do Lago is a must for any keen golfer dreaming of a golf holiday in Portugal.
