After an amazing week in Abu Dhabi and a fleeting foray into Qatar, the European Tour heads to Dubai for the final leg of its Desert Swing; The Omega Dubai Desert Classic.
Defending champ Rory McIlroy headlines a stellar field this week, with plenty of leading stars from the world of golf such as the likes of Henrik Stenson, Martin Kaymer and 3-time champion Ernie Els also along for the ride, not to mention Your Golf Travel Ambassadors Lee Westwood & Darren Clarke.
Such a fine selection of the world’s leading players will no doubt turn heads in Dubai but the real star of the show is the amazing Majlis Course at The Emirates Golf Club. Dubbed “The Desert Miracle” when it first appeared on the golf scene in 1988, The Majlis was the 1st 18 hole grass course in the Middle East and it has paved the way for plenty of other amazing golf courses since it opened for play.
With that in mind, let’s take a look at the best of what’s on offer in the UAE…
Perhaps the most famous of the courses in the UAE is the Majilis Course at the Emirates Golf Club. This course is known as the ‘Desert Miracle’ and its quality has been recognised by the European Tour who have awarded it the Dubai Desert Classic since it opened.
The Par 3 7th is one of the most exciting holes on the Majlis Course, with a long forced carry over a lake to a slick green that slopes back towards the water’s edge.
While most top clas golf courses boast jaw-dropping natural back drops, the Majlis offers views of the ever increasing number of skyscrapers in Dubai.
The clubhouse at the Emirates Golf Club was inspired by Bedouin tented village and is a reminder of the region’s cultural origins.
The Emirates Golf Club also boasts a second course designed by Sir Nick Faldo and even after the sun has gone down, golfers can take to the fairways to play under the floodlights!
Jumeirah Golf Estates is home to 2 championship courses. The Earth Course, shown above, plays host to the season ending DP World Tour Championships on the European Tour.
Like the golf courses, the clubhouses in the UAE are simply stunning. This is the sail boat inspired effort from Dubai Creek Golf Club.
As you may know, Dubai is famous for building weird and wonderful constructions. This tee at Dubai Creek Golf Club fits into that category!
Ernie Els has a golf course in Dubai too and it’s a cracker. Located in the exclusive Dubai Sports City and measuring in excess of 7,500 yards from the Championship tees, the course is sure to host tournament golf in future years.
Arabian Ranches is strictly a pay-as-you-play course, and this makes it superb value for the golf holiday-maker in Dubai. Carved from the desert, this charming course is a little more remote than others in Dubai and offers an authentic desert golf experience.
The Championship Course at Abu Dhabi GC is dominated by large water hazards and huge waste bunkers, putting an emphasis on accurate hitting from tee to green.
Unsurprisingly there is no shortage of sand at Abu Dhabi Golf Club.
One of the best things about a golf break in the UAE is the ability to play golf long into the evening thanks to a fantastic climate.
You can also play Night Golf at Abu Dhabi Golf Club! Enjoy dinner and make your way back to the fairways for nine holes under the lights!
Perhaps a twilight tee time is in order if you want to catch one of the spectacular Arabian sunsets?
The Falcon Clubhouse at Abu Dhabi Golf Club has become an icon for golf in Abu Dhabi and provides a dramatic backdrop to the famous 18th hole.

Saadiyat Beach boasts a championship course designed by Gary Player and a distinctly unique feel when compared to other courses in Abu Dhabi.

Yas Links is the highest ranked course in the whole of the Middle East. Designed by Kyle Philips to look, feel and play like a traditional links course, Yas offers something out of the norm for golf in Abu Dhabi.
