The interesting history, cultural diversity and enviable climate of Turkey makes it a desirable holiday destination for many but the significant development of the Belek region has transformed it into a haven for travelling golfers. The recent Turkish Airlines World Golf Finals – attended by Messrs Woods, McIlroy and co – further highlight the growing influence and quality of golf in Turkey.
Countless top quality golf courses and accommodation options, most of which are all inclusive which makes everything so much more affordable, line the Mediterranean coastline near Antalya and, while golfers are spoilt for choice, there are one or two venues that stand head and shoulders above the rest. The Montgomerie Maxx Royal is just such a venue. Read on to find out more about Monty’s Turkish Delight…
Montgomerie unveiled this stunning championship golf course in 2007, and it has been an instant hit with all who have played it. We have had nothing but positive feedback from clients who have chosen it for their Turkish Golf Holidays so it must be good!
Umbrella Pines dominate Monty’s fabulous creation and while the call for accurate play, they allow players to find wayward drives and escape to safety.
Monty has gone big with this one and the numbers are impressive. The course sprawls over 260 acres of prime parkland that is dominated by umbrella pines and is just a stone’s throw from the Mediterranean. The average green size is over 600 square meters; bunkers cover a total of 7 hectares and there are no less than 8 enormous lakes dotted around the course. Plenty for golfers to contend with then, but that isn’t where the fun ends on this fantastic course.
This is the third European Golf Design project to be completed in Turkey, following on from the Pasha and Sultan Courses at Antalya Golf Club (host of the Turkish Airlines World Golf Finals) and with the input of 8 time order of merit winner and Ryder Cup legend, Colin Montgomerie, a championship course is now in place that will surely be a future host of the European Tour.
Water is a prevalent feature at Maxx Royal and should be avoided at all costs in order to score well…there plenty of other challenges around the course without a few balls being lost to the water!
The course stretches to over 7,000 yards from the plates but mere mortals should fear not. Each hole features four tee locations and the course can be enjoyed by less experienced players from as little as 5,429 yards. As with all of Monty’s courses, Maxx Royal has been set up to make golfers think and make choices throughout the round. Regardless of your handicap, there are different ways to play every hole and that is where the fun lies.
Upon finishing your round at Montgomerie Maxx Royal, you will no doubt feel the need to kick up your feet and relax. The perfect place for this is on the clubhouse terrace overlooking the beautiful 18th Hole. With 2 floors accommodating every need, the clubhouse attached to the course is simply world class and will be likely to trump any 19th hole you have enjoyed your favourite tipple in on previous golf holidays. There is even a tower from which you can enjoy amazing views of the mountains and the Mediterranean Sea.
The Clubhouse’s tower allows golfers to gaze over the entire course and out over the picturesque Belek landscape.
Throw world class conditioning and ample practice facilities that include a large driving range and massive putting and chipping greens into the mix and the Montgomerie Maxx Royal really does hit the spot when it comes to golf!
But the golf is not the only trick the Montgomerie Maxx Royal has up its sleeve; there is also a fantastic hotel which makes this not only a high quality golf holiday destination but a convenient one as well.
All of the guestrooms are suites here so The Maxx Royal Hotel is world where everyone is a VIP. The hotel is set at the heart of a 400,000 square metre estate, just a few minutes from the centre of Belek and 45 km from Antalya City Centre. The hotel is operated on an ultra all inclusive board basis, with premium service and facilities to match which means you can eat, drink and enjoy lavish leisure facilities to your heart’s content while away from the golf course.
The Nightclub at Maxx Royal is a great example of the outlandish luxury of the rest of the hotel which is definitely one of the most stylish and exciting accommodation options we at Your Golf Travel have ever come across.
If you have had your fill of more traditional European Golf Holiday hotspots such as the Algarve or the Costa del Sol then Turkey should be at the top of your hit list for future golf breaks and you would be foolish not to consider the amazing Montgomerie Maxx Royal as your destination of choice.
