Mount Juliet in a Snapshot
– Just 1.5 hours drive from Dublin
– 7,300 yard Jack Nicklaus Signature Course
– Former Irish Open Host
– Superb dining options, including the 3 AA Rosette Lady Helen Restaurant

Mount Juliet is to be found just a short drive from the medieval city of Kilkenny and about an hour and half drive south from Dublin. The Estate offers a number of luxury accommodation options as well as Jack Nicklaus’ only signature golf course in Ireland – this makes it truly unique and one of the finest golf travel destinations in the country.

The Earl of Carrick built the magnificent house over 200 years ago, and it still preserves all of the character that is displayed during its early days. The house offers 32 bedrooms, including two Presidential Suites, all of which are uniquely designed and possess period features and furnishings, however the rooms are also equipped with all of the modern amenities you would expect from a modern 5* hotel, so you needn’t worry about a lack of up-to-date facilities.

The rooms in the house boasts high ceilings, Georgian windows and built in fireplaces among other unique period features.

Away from the main hotel there are a number of other accommodation options including the Rose Garden Lodges and the Clubhouse Rooms.

The Rose Garden Lodges, which have been the focus for extensive refurbishment over recent years, offer guests visiting Mount Juliet an exceptional accommodation option with superb views of the estate’s serene parkland grounds and the tremendous golf course. The Lodges are nestled between Mount Juliet House and the Clubhouse Rooms and boast a pair of snug bedrooms, each with an en-suite bathroom, as well as a lounge and dining area, not to mention a fully equipped kitchen – so you can expect a “home away from home” if you choose the Rose Garden Lodges for your stay – perfect for groups of golfers or families.

Located just a stone’s throw from the Golden Bear designed golf course are the Clubhouse Rooms, these are ideal for those looking to enjoy the warm atmosphere of the Clubhouse. Both the President’s Bar and Kendals Restaurant are located close by, as are the quality spa facilities which are within touching distance – this, arguably, makes the Clubhouse Rooms the most convenient accommodation option at Mount Juliet.

As you would expect from a 5* golf resort there are also a number of superb dining options. The hotel’s flagship gastronomic outlet is The Lady Helen Restaurant – a superb eatery, located in the main house itself, which not only boasts panoramic views over the estate and River Nore, but also 3 AA Rosettes! Here you will be offered a range of international dishes, of which all are made using only local produce and fresh herbs which are picked daily from the estate’s very own herb garden.

There is also a French style restaurant which goes by the name of Kendals Brasserie – also an AA Rosette restaurant. Here you will find a perfect spot for quality food in a casual atmosphere. The dishes presented are their very own interpretation of French brasserie classics and the service is sophisticated yet informal. The all-day dining option comes in the form of The President’s Bar, it serves up soups, snacks and salads and a wide ranging charcoal grill menu throughout the day.

Without doubt, Mount Juliet’s crowning glory is its Jack Nicklaus Signature Course – a par-72, 7,300 yard layout which boasts undulating fairways, a number of testing water hazards and contoured greens – all this perfectly unified with the stunning surroundings of this illustrious old Irish Estate.

The Golden Bear design, opened in 1991, has also been recognised for its splendour having been awarded, in preparation for the WGC, the American Express Golf Championship in 2002 and 2004. Other events at Mount Juliet include the Irish Opens of 1993-95 and the Shell Wonderful World of Golf match between Tom Watson and Fred Couples in 1998.

Just as you would expect from a golf course that has hosted the world’s top 50 golfers, the course is a bit of a beast from the championship tees. However thanks to a number of well positioned tee locations on each hole, all levels of handicaps can easily play it from a length which best matches their game.

Originally from the Home of Golf, I have been lucky enough to hack my way round some of the finest courses Scotland has to offer. Previous employers include the world famous Gleneagles Hotel - where I once recommended a half pint of local lager to Gary Player.
