Just returned from our trip to The PGA at Catalunya, the party rated it a real success and we have been to quite a number of places over the last ten years.
The recommendation to stay on-site worked very well, as although I would describe the hotel as functional, the staff were friendly and breakfasts fine, as the tour organiser, the convenience of a 5 minute walk to the first tee cannot be underestimated on a trip for 12. It should also be noted that it is only 15 minutes from Girona airport and the hotel arranged coach transfers which worked perfectly.
The courses were in excellent condition, both have fairly generous fairways and with reduced rough in the trees, they give everyone a chance. The greens however, particularly on the Stadium course, were exceptionally quick, 11 on the stimp apparently, which for our particular group meant that by the end there were a lot of distinctly nervous jabs.
The food and atmosphere in the clubhouse was very good, we had two very reasonably priced lunches and as with the hotel, the staff were most obliging.
Trips into Girona in the evening take around 20-30 minutes, the hotel arranged a coach for the trip there and this cost 60 Euros, taxis back at times varying between 1 and 4am were just over 30 Euros , very reasonable, we had one evening eating and enjoying the local wines at a tapas restaurant in the main square which cost 25 Euros a head, with the amount that had been consumed we did check to ensure that they had not short changed themselves.
