PGA Player of the Year – The Winners – Tiger Woods & Jordan Speith

Last week we looked at the contenders for the PGA Tour Player of the Year, what they had achieved throughout the 2013 season and their chances of winning the votes of their peers and the coveted PGA Tour Player of the Year award.

The results were announced last Friday and while there were no surprises as to the winner of Rookie of the Year (Jordan Speith had the most remarkable rookie year since…well…Tiger!), there were some who were hoping the major championships won by Phil Mickelson and Adam Scott might tilt the odds in their favour over Tiger Woods.

Alas, math prevailed and the fact that Tiger won more than double the amount of titles than any other golfer, had the 2nd lowest scoring average and the most amount of prize money won saw him take home a record 11th Player of the Year title.

Here’s how Speith’s and Tiger’s seasons stacked up…

Jordan Speith had an outstanding rookie season on the PGA Tour and seems like he is here to stay!

With 5 wins including two World Golf Championships and The Player’s Championship, also known as golf’s 5th major, Tiger was clearly the most successful golfer on the PGA Tour last season but the fact that he failed to win a major, unlike Phil Mickelson and Adam Scott had some doubting his credentials for Player of the Year.
