The pot of gold in the FedEx Cup looms ever closer and more players will be eliminated from the race this week at the TPC of Boston.

The Deutsche Bank has been staged here for many years now and is always a birdie fest. It’s not a tough course – a par-71 that traditionally plays very easily. Last year’s winner was Chris Kirk at -15, but in 2013 Henrik Stenson was -22 as he won by two from Steve Stricker.

In terms of a winner, it really is something of a guessing game because the world’s best players are all here and there are plenty of birdies up for grabs. That does not always equate to the best players winning – with the greatest respect to the likes of past winners such as Kirk, Charley Hoffman and Olin Browne. That said, Stenson, Rory McIlroy, Tiger and Phil have all won here too – so there’s no identikit winner.

What we do have is Rory McIlroy, Jordan Spieth and Jason Day in the field together – the new Big Three. It might be foolish to bet against them as they are all so good – any of them could be world no.1 at the end of the tournament. But their odds are naturally prohibitive.
