[dropcap]Birdie[/dropcap] birdie birdie! Eagle!

That’s the sort of thing that the PGA Tour pros will be needing this week as they tackle one of the softest courses they face all year. The TPC at Summerlin in Nevada always throws up a feast of low scoring – basically you need to score in the 60s every day and make sure one of them is very low indeed.

It’s a typical resort course and last year it was Ben Martin who emerged on top of the scoring-fest, with rounds of 68-66-62-68 en route to a 20-under total of 264. That gives you an idea of what it takes – of those who made the cut, not one was over par.

It’s not a brilliant field, although Rickie Fowler brings some much-needed stardust, and when he’s on a roll there are few better at going on a run of scoring. At around 10/1 in a field where the likes of Brooks Koepka, Ryan Moore and Kevin Na are seen as his main competitors, he is not the worst bet in history.
