Poulter’s cereal Ryder Cup controversy

By October 26, 2010No Comments

Ian Poulter has defended himself after being blasted by critics for posting a video of himself and children eating breakfast from the Ryder Cup. In the video, Poulter fills the cup with Cheerios and pours milk over the cereal before both he and his children tuck in.

The world number 16 has come in for some heavy criticism from fans, with many posting on the video’s page and across golf blogs and newspaper websites, and even on Twitter.

One such irate post read:

“It’s just a slap in the face for golf fans. I watched every minute of the Ryder Cup. It is an institution and those boys taking home that trophy for Europe is an unbelievable feeling.

“To just eat out of the cup is sickening. If it is meant to be a joke it isn’t amusing. It’s not just about Poulter. He wasn’t the only one that won that cup and he’s just disgraced the entire team.”

But Poulter hit back against the critics with a series of posts on his Twitter feed. Poulter said of the incident:

“Totally no disrespect meant with RC, Life is about enjoying yourself, I would hate to grow old & be miserable. That i assure u wont happen.”

“If you poor blood sweet and tears for a trophy & make it ur life to help win it & not be able to have fun with it, then something is wrong”

“It’s probably the same 12 people that complained about me wearing then union jack trousers. You can’t please everyone.”

What do you think of Poulter’s antics? Are you amused or abhorred by Poulter’s use of the Stanley Ryder Trophy? Let us know in the comments!
