The most recent professional event Quinta da Marinha held was a PGA Challenge Tour event.

The 18-hole golf course at Quinta da Marinha is a Robert Trent Jones Senior design – the same renowned architect who is responsible for some of the best courses in the world, including: Los Naranjos (Spain), Adare Manor (Ireland) and many others across North America.

Since its opening in 1984 the course has held a number of prestigious amateur and professional events including the 1988 Ladies Masters, 2002 PGA Seniors Tour Championship and the 2007 Challenge Tour. Its par-71 layout is able to boast stunning views to the Atlantic Ocean and Sintra Moutains. Measuring 6,419 yards from the back tees, this course offers a brilliant test for all golfers, be it the season professional or just the average player.

Beautiful views of the rugged Atlantic Coast are available on a number of the holes.

The layout is without a doubt one of the brightest gems in Europe – allowing you to benefit from a memorable round of golf whilst overseeing the rugged Atlantic coastline that makes the Lisbon golf coast so extraordinary. In fact, in 2007, the Lisbon Golf Coast won the IAGTO Award for the Best Established Golfing Destination (Europe)!

The six par-three holes are the highlight of Quinta da Marinha, starting at “Good Luck”, the 2nd and ending at “Sweet Sixteen” the 16th. A major attraction of these one-shotters is that they are made up of “proper” short holes – sensibly measured between 143 and 182 yards.

At Quinta da Marinha the golf doesn’t stop with the brilliant golf course the complex is also superb for tuition! The resident PGA professionals even use the same technology and equipment that Tiger Woods uses to help streamline his swing. So before you tee off be sure to ask for some tips from the helpful pros or head to the extensive practice area which includes an extensive driving range as well as a short-game and putting area.

The golf course at Quinta da Marinha isn’t the only reason to visit, it is also perfectly complemented by the magnificent 5* hotel and brilliant self-catered villas.

The guestrooms all boast a super comfortable bed as well as a private balcony.

The hotel, like the golf course, is set against the backdrop of Atlantic Ocean and the Sintra Mountains, as well as the golf course – these are also the sights you’ll be able to enjoy from your very own private balcony. Each of the 198 guestrooms boast satellite TV, radio, air-conditioning, electronic safe and a gorgeous en-suite bathroom.

You could also choose to elect one of Quinta da Marinha’s 44 chic villas for your accommodation during your stay. All provide great levels of comfort with added privacy – something which can be an important factor in making a great golf break even greater. The villas are also well equipped with a spacious balcony and large living area, as well as a fully equipped kitchenette. These villas are ideal for families or groups of golfers looking for a little bit more independence during their golf holiday.

Villas are the perfect choice for large groups and family golf breaks.

As you would expect from a 5* golf resort, Quinta da Marinha has its very own Health Club which allows you to keep fit in the state-of-the-art gymnasium or just relax and make the most of the beautiful surroundings. The Spa complex houses swimming pools, a sauna, Turkish bath, Swiss & Tropical showers, as well as a number of treatment rooms for massages and beauty treatments.

Whilst you’re staying at Quinta da Marinha it would be rude not to try a variety of traditional Portuguese dishes in the Five Pines restaurant – an elegant and modern dining room which offers classic recipes but with a contemporary twist. The restaurant also provides superb views over the golf course, the lakes and pool from the terrace, should you choose to eat al fresco.

The Trent Jones bar boasts some of the best views at the resort.

Another worthwhile visit while at Quinta da Marinha is the Trent Jones bar, named after the legendary golf course architect Robert Trent Jones Sr. It was totally re-decorated in 2007, which now means that it boasts an elegant décor with a cosmopolitan but un-pretentious atmosphere. The bar is located in perhaps the best area of the hotel – it extends itself towards the swimming pool solarium and presents you with gorgeous views to the golf course and its two large lakes.

What more could you ask for from a golf resort? A stunning course, amazing accommodation, superb bars & restaurants and a world-class spa facility! Packages start from just £235 – this includes 3 nights B&B in the hotel and unlimited rounds of golf.

Originally from the Home of Golf, I have been lucky enough to hack my way round some of the finest courses Scotland has to offer. Previous employers include the world famous Gleneagles Hotel - where I once recommended a half pint of local lager to Gary Player.
