World Number 1, Rory McIlroy, has been confirmed as the PGA of America Player of the Year (a points based award that saw McIlroy bag 160 pts) for 2014, beating competition in the shape of Bubba Watson (Masters champion – 62 pts), Martin Kaymer (Players Championship & US Open winner – 52 pts) and Jimmy Walker (3 time PGA Tour winner – 46 pts). Along with a host of other awards that come along when you enjoy a sustained period of form such as McIlroy’s, the award simply underlines Rory’s status as the games best player currently plying his trade on tour.
