Dubai is among the world’s fastest growing holiday destinations, thanks to the ultimate luxury hotels, fine dining, tax-free shopping, and of course the marvellous climate – with the emirate seeing, on average, just 7 days of rain per year.

The development of Dubai as a destination for golfers has a lot to do with the world-class developments, where the game’s most famous names have been given the task to design and develop a superb array of exceptional and unique courses.

Dubai is obviously well known for its enormous hotels with hundreds or even thousands of rooms, however if you’re looking for something a little more serene The Address Montgomerie Dubai Hotel & Golf Resort should certainly be considered, especially when you learn that it’s located within easy reach of Dubai International Airport and within close proximity to a number of Dubai’s business and leisure hubs, including the Dubai Marina which has become a very popular area for holiday makers to base themselves, due to the restaurants, hotels, clubs and beaches all within easy walking distance of each other.

The Montgomerie

The intimate boutique hotel, nestled within 265 acres of verdant green fairways, manicured gardens and stunning lakes, is perfect for a relaxing golf break, especially if you’re looking to escape the stresses and strains of everyday life.

Accommodation at this intimate resort comes in the form of just 21 modern and chic boutique guestrooms, with the dominant colour scheme in all the rooms a deep dark brown, with sharp tones of red. An abundance of leather is apparent throughout, from the leather straps handles on the wardrobe doors in the bedrooms to the leather panelling on the study desks.

A number of the rooms are able to brag stunning golf course views.

Secondly you have ‘Monty Cristo’s ‘ – the ultimate cigar-lounge which boasts a collection of some of the finest cigars and single malts in the world. The atmosphere oozes warmth and luxury, so it’s the perfect place to treat yourself, and partake in a game of billiards or simply unwind in one of the oversized leather loungers.

The Montgomerie

Monty Cristo’s also serves up a great range of cocktails, appetizers and tapas – perfect for a pre-dinner get-together.

Finally you have ‘Nineteen’ – one of Dubai’s finest restaurants. Overlooking the 18th hole of the charming golf course, Nineteen offers an extensive selection of dishes as well as over 250 different wines. The comfortable and contemporary furnishings really set the mood for your evening meal, which is sure to be a memorable one, especially on the nights with live music. The magnificent dining room at the Montgomerie’s Nineteen has been ranked by Time Out Dubai as ‘Best New Restaurant’ and ‘Best Contemporary European Restaurant’.

If you’ve got some spare downtime, away from the golf course, then the Angsana Spa is a must. It offers a total of six treatment rooms and a comprehensive menu of treatments and therapies, all of which use only natural ingredients such as native flowers, fruits, herbs, spices and plants to help you relax. Guests of The Montgomerie are also entitled to a 15% discount on massages and a 10% saving on spa packages.

The Address Montgomerie Dubai also boasts a championship golf course, measuring 7,396 yards, which was designed by the recent Golf Hall of Fame inductee, Colin Montgomerie, in conjunction with Desmond Muirhead. The magnificent links-style course, which opened for play in October 2002, is managed by Troon Golf and is ranked as one of the best courses in the Middle East time and time again.

The Montgomerie

As well as the vast expanses of sand, The Montgomerie also has a staggering 49 acres of man made lakes!

Don’t be put off by the staggering length of the course because the 4 grades of tees mean that the length can be reduced all the way down to 5,394 yards – making it easily manageable for even the high-handicap golfer.

Monty’s co-designer, the late Desmond Muirhead, was well known for adding the odd quirky touch here and there and his unusual trademark is clear for all to see at the par-3 13th hole where the putting surface is laid out in the shape of the United Arab Emirates. This is Dubai after all!

The Academy by Troon Golf is one of the top golf tuition academies in the Middle East. Here you can find seriously experienced coaches who are all committed to creating a learning environment which develops and improves student’s golfing ability through coaching as opposed to teaching. The Academy also boasts a state-of-the-art swing studio and private instructional areas. Another special feature of The Address Montgomerie Dubai Hotel is the superb 662 yard floodlit 9-hole par-3 academy course – ideal for those evening golfing enthusiasts.

The Montgomerie

The enormous sky scrapers of Dubai can be seen in the distance from almost anywhere on the course.

Originally from the Home of Golf, I have been lucky enough to hack my way round some of the finest courses Scotland has to offer. Previous employers include the world famous Gleneagles Hotel - where I once recommended a half pint of local lager to Gary Player.
