The terrific history, cultural diversity and climate of Turkey makes it an extremely desirable destination for budding travellers from all walks of life. In the past two decades, the incredible development of Belek has made the Mediterranean coastline near Antalya a paradise for golfers. Those of you who are planning ahead and looking for fun in the sun on some of the finest fairways in the world, the Cornelia Diamond Resort and Cornelia Deluxe Resort are where it’s at.
Quality Golf
At the heart of Belek’s success is the sheer quality of its golf courses and luxurious resorts, many of which are all inclusive and, best of all, extremely affordable in comparison with other five star destinations across the globe.
The golf courses designed by famous names including David Feherty, Colin Montgomerie and Sir Nick Faldo have given Turkey serious international golfing credibility and Faldo’s effort at the Cornelia Golf Club – attached to the Cornelia Deluxe Resort – is without doubt one of the picks of the bunch.
Cornelia Diamond Resort
Cornelia Deluxe Resort
Since officially opening in 2006, the Cornelia Deluxe Resort has quickly become one of the go to destinations for golfers visiting the sunny shores of Turkey.
Cornelia is perched right on the sea front, just a stone’s throw away from sandy beaches, and offers its guests a luxurious, all inclusive service that includes a refreshing welcome drink upon arrival; the perfect way to kick start your Turkish Golf Holiday.
5* Hotel
The magnificent 5* hotel is built around no less than five outdoor swimming pools, which are the perfect place to unwind and enjoy the sunshine during time spent away from the golf course. Inside the hotel guests can enjoy an excellent array of accommodation options ranging from Standard Guestrooms and Family Rooms to Lake Houses and lavish Suites.
Take your pick out of the five pools dotted around the resort.
Activities Off The Course
As well as the Cornelia Golf Club with its Sir Nick Faldo designed golf course this magnificent resort also offers guests access to tennis, volleyball, football, basketball, climbing and bowling. With a pristine stretch of sandy beach nearby guests with an adventurous side can also try their hand at exciting water sports like wind surfing, sailing, jet-skiing, parasailing and banana boating.
The well equipped fitness centre is also on hand for those who like to work up a sweat and stay in shape. A Turkish bath, sauna, jacuzzi and steam room are also on hand for those who simply wish to wash away the stresses and strains of everyday life or indeed for golfers who may have picked up a couple of aches and pains while toiling away on the fairways.
The Faldo Course at Cornelia Deluxe Resort
Belek in particular, is now one of the foremost golfing hotspots in the world and there are few better reasons to embark on a golf break here than the stunning Cornelia Faldo Course.
Since retiring from the professional game after a glittering career that saw him become the most successful British Golfer of the modern era, Faldo entered the world of golf course design. Cornelia Golf Club was Faldo’s first project in Turkey. Only time will tell if it will remain his finest creation but we can assure you it has every chance to do so!
The Sir Nick Faldo designed golf course at Cornelia Golf Club is attached to the Deluxe Resort by a complimentary shuttle.
A Test For All Golfers
Three nine hole loops, the Tiberius, Sempronia and Gaius, make up the 27 holes at Cornelia and not matter which combination you choose you will be guaranteed golf of the highest order. Faldo’s creation is a serious test, especially when tackled from the championship tees, as it measures close to 7,000 yards. This will certainly appeal to long hitters and more talented players there are several tee positions to ensure golfers of abilities can enjoy this magnificent course.
The course is carved through a charming forest with native umbrella pines which calls for accuracy from the tee. While this is an important attribute for good scoring here, wayward drives are not as severely punished as they would be on many of the parkland courses in the UK and Ireland. Players here will almost always find their ball and a route back to safety; a challenging yet fair test from the tee.
Turkey’s ideal climate allows ardent golfers to strut their stuff on the fairways from dusk until dawn.
Doglegs and Deception
Other notable features on the course include firm sandy soil that is simply perfect for golf, immaculate fairways and greens and sweeping undulations which are particularly prominent around the middle of the course where a series or dramatic dunes come into play.
The par 5 2nd on the Tiberius nine, aptly named ‘Corridor’, is a fine hole that requires not only power but accuracy and finesse. The fairway winds its way through a corridor of trees, doglegging twice from left to right requiring well placed and carefully thought out shots. Golfing strategists in particular will enjoy this hole. While playing the Sempronia nine look out for the 13th. ‘Deception’, as it is called, is a charming yet challenging dog leg where, following a well struck drive, players will have to contend with a tricky approach to a small green heavily protected by bunkers. The Gaius nine is the youngest of the three and perhaps the best but whatever way you look at it your golfing experience at Cornelia will no doubt be a great one!
In addition to the native Umbrella Pines and rolling undulations, the Cornelia Faldo Course features well placed bunkers and picturesque water hazards.
The David Leadbetter Academy at Cornelia Deluxe Resort
In addition to 27 fine holes, Cornelia Golf Club is also home to The David Leadbetter Academy. Here you can seek the advice of top class teaching professionals. It’s perfectly fitting that Leadbetter has an academy at the Cornelia Resort, as he helped Faldo become one of the game’s most successful players. He also instructed the likes of Ernie Els, Nick Price Greg Norman.
