Phil Mickelson was in great form during the final round at the Open Championship. The five time major winner was six-under par, 10-under for the tournament and looking good, until he approached the 17th Road Hole.

Trying to hit a draw around the corner, big Phil overdid it and spectacularly hit it straight into the St Andrews hotel where the ball finally settled on a balcony. Unfortunately, it ended in a treble bogey for Mickelson and a very respectable seven-under for the tournament.

Mickelson later said he has hit some shots from some crazy places, but hadn’t decided whether he would have climbed up to hit it had been in bounds.

In the second round of the Barclays in 2014, Mickelson hit an errant tee shot into the hospitality area in the par-4, 5th and as you can imagine, the fans were delighted and one even offered him some of his beer.

In July of last year, the American went on a detour during the first round of the Scottish Open at the 13th and highlighted why he is a magician armed with the wedge. Off the cart path, he hit it to around eight foot passed the hole where he managed to stop the ball dead before rolling it in for a birdie.
