The final major of the year begins on Thursday and if you weren’t so excited about it before, the news of Rory McIlroy’s involvement should certainly capture your attention.
The battle between the Northern Irishman and Jordan Spieth will be well worth watching on its own but they’re still plenty of players who will fancy their chances of victory at Whistling Straits.
The team at Your Golf Travel have provided their insightful knowledge on who they think will win the PGA Championship.
Rory Anderson, YGT Marketing, goes for Dustin Johnson (17/1)
DJ might have question marks surrounding his apparent inability to finish off the job in the majors, but the fact that he consistently puts himself in position to win one of the big ones suggests to me he’s a big game player and it’s only a matter of time until he cracks the code. Of course, Johnson’s major hearthache all began at Whistling Straits, where in 2010 he inadvertently grounded his club in one of the 500+ bunkers on the course, costing him a place in he playoff that was eventually won by Martin Kaymer. Having come so close at this year’s US Open, as well as looking pretty convincing for most of The Open at St Andrews, I wouldn’t be surprised to see the PGA Tour’s longest hitter finally pop his major cherry in Wisconsin.
Ian Purvis, YGT Sales, goes for Justin Rose (20/1)
Justin is having a very consistent season and has moved up to to 6 in the Official Golf World Rankings, finishing in the Top 6 his last 3 events on the trot. His game let him down a bit on Sunday at Firestone but that should spur him on to finish the job this time around…his 3rd round 63 on what many believe to be one of the most testing courses on the PGA Tour circuit was pretty impressive too! Rose is the best English talent since Sir Nick Faldo and has proved in the past he’s a man for the biggest stage. I’m sure he’ll add another major to go along with his 2013 US Open crown at some point in the future so why not at Whistling Straits?
