Get to know the TaylorMade TP5 Golf Ball
The TP5 is TaylorMade’s brand new ball for 2017 and it’s already turning heads among the brand’s tour players, promising improved performance in every department.
The majority of golf balls are constructed using either two, three or four pieces, but in 2009 TaylorMade moved towards incorporating 5 layers in search of maximum performance. It all started with the Penta and after years more development, a combination of a 5 layer construction and technologies including a Tri-Fast Core and Dual Spin Cover; the TP5 offers outstanding tee-to-green performance, as well as superb touch and feel around the greens...something we all want when we’re playing on new courses on our travels!
The Tri-Fast Core consists of an inner core with a very low compression, as well as a progressively stiffer outer core and mantle. Leaving the techno-babble aside for a minute, the combination of these three layers promise lower spin and more speed...two key ingredients for longer drives!
The TP5's Dual-Spin cover combines an ultra-soft Cast Urethane cover, which is wrapped around a rigid TP inner cover, creating a perfect storm of extreme distance and superb touch and feel around the greens.
Eric Loper, TaylorMade's director of golf ball research and development said if the TP5: "We have done a lot of testing across a wide range of handicaps, and they are going to see a lot of what our tour players are seeing, which is right around a half- to a full club-length with their irons and some extra distance off the tee."

WHY NUMBER 60?
We all know about Darren's countless Ryder Cup heroics, most notably his three wins at The K Club in 2006, as well as his Open Championship triumph at Royal St. George's 5 years later, but why does the big man play the number 60 on his balls?
The 60 Darren's been playing on his balls for years is a representation of the lowest score he's ever shot on tour.
At the 1992 European Monte Carlo Open, Darren fired in a round of nine under par and even more impressively, he repeated the feat 7 years later, becoming the 1st ever player to shoot a 2nd round of 60 on the European Tour. This time the magical number was achieved at The K Club, host of the 1999 European Open and unfortunately for Darren, his efforts weren't quite enough, falling just short of eventual winner Lee Westwood.
