We were not sure what to expect from our golf break at Heythrop Park but we were certainly not disappointed! The golf course has some great holes and is set in huge park with a history dating back to 1703. There is also a very good 4* Crowne Plaza hotel where you get excellent service. The sound of lions roaring around holes 5 – 7. Truly memorable! And at a rate of £109 pp for dinner, B&B, and two rounds of golf, it was very good value.
The first four holes were pretty open and not that interesting but from hole 5 that all changed as we met hole after challenging hole that made us focus totally on our golf. At 6,567 off the white tees, it is a reasonably long course and the long walks between some of the greens and tees added to the overall effect. And with a few steep climbs, it is best suited to the fit! Having said that, it was a pleasure to play it; the greens were in excellent condition, as was the rest of the golf course.
The hotel reception area is a little unusual in its décor, the bedrooms have everything that you would expect, and the food in the restaurant was excellent. We had a few bottles of wonderful Rioja at £23 each – not cheap but it was excellent wine! Again the friendliness and helpfulness of the staff deserves a mention as they were excellent.
While I normally opt for 5* venues, I loved the golf break at Heythrop Park and my overall verdict on this resort is 8/10...I would happily go back. The service from YGT was fast and responsive to my changes, and I very much appreciated the advice that I received. I would not hesitate to recommend Your Golf Travel to anybody thinking of booking a golf break.
