Dunfanaghy Golf Club is an established 18-hole links golf course located in the village of Dunfanaghy in the County of Donegal. The golf club was the home of Ryder Cup captain Paul McGinley when he was growing up and has and to this day he remains a regular visitor to the club.

The course itself provides a typical links test for all golfers regardless of handicap as well as offering incredible views over Killahoey Beach and Sheephaven Bay.

Dunfanaghy Golf Club

At just 5,796 yards from the back tees, the course is incredibly short by modern standards, however the length should be no indication to the difficulty of this unique links layout. With five par-3s on the courses, two of which feature a daunting shot over water which cuts across the hole before the green, the course looks to use its natural links landscape to catch golfers out.

Set on the Wild Atlantic Way, there are several points of the course which feature a sea breeze to make the every shot different. That’s actually one of the great features of Dunfanaghy Golf Club as due to the varying conditions, you will never have the same experience twice when playing there, keeping you guessing about the best places to target

However despite the varying conditions the course benefits from a free draining sand base, allowing it to be enjoyed all year round, although expect frosty starts and stronger winds in the winter months. All in all, this short yet challenging links course is a delight to play whatever your handicap, with exciting holes at every turn, brilliant greens and an incredible setting.

As we were playing at the tail end of the winter season, we fully appreciate the course was not at its best as would be the same all over the country. However it was a great pleasure to play the course and the staff at the Club were most helpful. Thank you Dunfanaghy GC.
