There are six courses in England that have hosted the Open Championship. Along the rugged Lancashire coastline is Royal Liverpool, Royal Birkdale & Royal Lytham & St Anne’s while down in Kent are the layouts of Royal St George’s, Princes Golf Club and Royal Cinque Ports.
Just north of London is the Kyle Phillips-designed course at The Grove, which hosted the American Express World Golf Championship in 2006, won by none other than Tiger Woods. Of course, no list of English championship venues would be complete without mentioning The Brabazon Course at the Belfry, in Sutton Coldfield West Midlands, which has hosted the Ryder Cup on an unprecedented four occasions.
Steeped in Ryder Cup history, The Belfry is a perfect resort to accommodate groups of golfers, particularly with the newly refurbished Sam’s Bar.
If you’re heading to the south west, then the St Mellion International Resort is an absolute must. The Cornwall resort boasts two outstanding courses, a brilliant 19th hole and the Fairway Lodges, which are perfectly suited to large groups of golfers. There are countless cities and towns scattered throughout England where you’re guaranteed a memorable (albeit slightly hazy) night.
Bournemouth is our No.1 golf tour destination in the UK, owing to its fine array of courses coupled with a buzzing evening atmosphere driven largely by the town’s student-heavy population.
Bristol, Nottingham, Leeds and Blackpool also come highly recommended if your trip’s social curriculum is just as important as the golf itself.
There are no shortage of luxury hotels and resorts for golfing holidays in England.
Escape to the immaculate 400-acre estate of Bovey Castle in Devon, or see why The Grove near Hertfordshire is a popular haunt among some of the world’s biggest celebrities.
For a lavish golf break in the north, try Rudding Park - voted No. 1 Best UK Hotel in the TripAdvisor Travellers' Choice Awards for three of the past four years.
There are loads of great golf courses in England but Kent has to be my favourite destination, Royal St George’s, Royal Cinque Ports and Prince's.... nothing else to say.
