The city is one of the most populated cities in the Valley of the Sun with almost 250,000 inhabitants, and golf has played a major part in its speedy growth over the past thirty years. Each year, tourists and the city’s residents complete over 12 million rounds of golf across more than 200 varied golf courses in Scottsdale - from the fairways of traditional layouts, to the more modern desert golf designs.
Scottsdale really does have it all, according to the Robb Report who cited the city as, “America’s Best Place to Live for Golf”. There’s no wonder it’s a desirable and fast developing golf destination considering it has 314 days of sunshine each year and average temperatures of 22°C – waterproofs will not be required!
As home to some of the country’s largest resorts with massive spas, an endless number of places to eat and drink, Scottsdale is one of our favourite golfing destinations in the US. And there’s more great news for golfers – in the high desert, your ball will be flying an extra 10-15% further! Who said you couldn’t hit a 350 yard drive!
Armchair golf fans could be forgiven for struggling to differentiate one PGA Tour course from the next, but we'd be willing to bet that most of you recognise the Stadium Course at TPC Scottsdale - best known for its short 16th hole - which has hosted the historic Waste Management Phoenix Open Golf Tournament since 2010, attracting in excess of 500,000 keen golf fans to the 4-day event!
Away from the golf, an hour or so well spent is on a walking tour of Scottsdale's Old Town. Whether you hire a guide or go DIY, you'll discover a little of the true origins of the community, dating back to 1894! Depending on when you visit you may also wish to release your inner baseball fan in support of the Arizona Diamondbacks, watch the Phoenix Suns take on the likes of LeBron James and the NBA's other stars or take in a bruising Arizona Cardinals NFL encounter.
