Hampton Cove Golf Club
Hampton Cove is located in Huntsville, Alabama, at the northern outpost of the revered Robert Trent Jones Trail. Golfers visiting Hampton Cove can expect to find two top class 18 hole golf courses, both of which offer a very different challenge to the other. The Highlands Course, as the name may suggest, is modelled on the great links courses of Scotland while the River Course is a much flatter, yet equally challenging proposition. There is also an 18 hole par 3 course, The Short Course, which is ideal for those looking for a quick round or for those looking to brush up on their short game skills.

The Highlands Course can stretch to a mighty 7,262 yards which will be more than enough yardage to challenge even the longest hitters from the tee. Simply gripping it and ripping it will not suffice around this challenging course though as sweeping undulations, water hazards and large, well placed bunkers call for sensible course management and precise approaches. Mature trees also border the perimeter of the course giving it a stadium like atmosphere. The fifth, with its fairway gully and old mule-barns beside the Green and the sixth, which plunges through a narrow gap in the dogwoods to a lakeside Green, are particularly attractive holes.
This 7,667 yard monster will challenge all who play it despite the fact that it is one of the very few Rober Trent Jones golf courses without a single bunker. Built on the ground of former soya bean plantations, this course winds its way along the Flint River with raised greens providing the main challenge. Approach shots here must be well struck in order for them to hold on the putting surfaces. A notable feature of the course is the collection of massive, ancient oak trees that make the course as attractive as it is challenging.
The Short Course at Hampton Cove is very open, with water coming into play on no less than 11 holes meaning tee shots must not be too wayward. Look out for the large shared green that accommodates the 10th and 17th holes. A poorly directed shot on either of these holes could leave you with an extremely lengthy putt! Those who wish to practice before teeing off for 18 holes can do so thanks to an excellent driving range with grass tees and a superb short game practice area that features both chipping and putting areas. The clubhouse is the perfect place to enjoy a refreshing drink after a long day on the fairways or indeed a hearty breakfast or lunch.
