The North West of England is famous for its golfing stars that include the likes of Formby, Royal Liverpool and Royal Birkdale and although these famous names grab most of the attention there are countless hidden gems just waiting to be discovered on a golf tour of this famous golfing region. Malkins Bank certainly falls into this category as this impressive municipal course's reputation goes from strength to strength with its growing maturity and ideal location.
You may even run into the great Ian Woosnam, a regular visitor to Malkins (his brother Gareth is Course Manager) who describes the course as "a real gem".

Malkins Bank is one of the finest golf courses in the North-West and since its creation it has been transformed from a charming nine hole course to a more testing and enjoyable 18 hole layout. Designed primarily by Martin Hawtree, the course measures a paltry 5,971 yards so is by no means a long course by modern standards, however with its growing maturity, a par of 70 and plenty of water hazards and obstacles there is plenty to challenge golfers of all abilities.
In addition to the driving range, the club has benefited from a new performance studio which features a state-of-the-art teaching academy with GC2 technology and putting analysis.
No trip to Malkins Bank is complete without a visit to the new Clubhouse. Enjoy some of the best value beer prices in the country (real ale from just £2.30 a pint and lager from £2.50 a pint) while watching live sport on Sky TV.
The Ian Woosnam Golf Academy is set to open at Malkins Bank in September 2014 with students to be taught between there and Newcastle Under Lyme College.
