We had a great golf holiday in Taba Heights where we stayed at the Hyatt Regency Hotel.
Upon arriving in Egypt we were immediately reminded of where we were because our transfer from the airport had to wait for police escort to Taba! During our stay we saw no sign of any trouble so we figured it was just a sensible precaution!
The Hotel was very good and provided a real five star experience from start to finish. The service was excellent as well and the staff were extremely grateful for any tips handed out during our stay. The food was great although I really missed real bacon at breakfast every morning! I have been on golf breaks to Turkey and Tunisia and I was able to get bacon there so was surprised not to see it in Egypt. The spa facilities at the hotel were awesome and we spent almost as much time there as we did on the golf courses!
The golf was absolutely superb and all week we played in temperatures that varied from 30 to 42 degrees. My club handicap is fifteen and that is roughly what I played to all week so I would say the golf course would be a fair test to any player. I even managed a few birdies on the par fives and my son picked up an eagle on a 580 yard monster!
The hottest was day 4 and we asked to tee off at 7:10am despite being booked for 8:00am. They were very obliging and had no problem in letting us go early. There were plenty of refreshments available on course and despite being a very modest drinker I polished off 2 litres of rum and coke on the course...and still played well! While in Rome eh?!
Night time entertainment varied from good to poor but it didn’t really concern us as we were content to just chill out as a group.
The only bit of hassle we had was on the airport transport going on to Taba where the chap loading the cases aggressively demanded money and was not happy with a the UK pounds we tried to offer him. This was obviously nothing to do with Your Golf Travel and we refused to let it get under our skin because we had had such a good golf break.
