0800 043 6644Originally a Dave Thomas nine hole course, Mar Menor was transformed into an 18 hole championship test by none other than the great Jack Nicklaus and now it offers golfers travelling to Spain for their golf breaks a challenging and enjoyable test of golf not matter their ability. The lush Mediterranean landscape on which the course is built features endless numbers of palm trees, native grasses and flowering shrubs which, when combined with the ever present water and well places waste and greenside bunkers, offer a good challenge for all.

La Torre, designed by the great Jack Nicklaus, is similar in style to the famous resort courses of Florida and as such players must safely negotiate vast swathes of sand and the ever present threat of water hazards lurking at the edge of the fairways and around the slick and true putting surfaces. Measuring a meagre 5,945 yards from the back tees, La Torre is playable for golfers of all abilities and while talented players and the big hitters may find it to be comparatively short, the strategy and precision required from the back tees still poses questions of any golfers skill.

Measuring a manageable 6,416 yards from the back tees; Hacienda Riquelme offers a different challenge to that of the other courses found on the Nicklaus Golf Trail. Generous fairways weave their way in and around olive trees, wild flower meadows and a number of imposing and intimidating lakes. Undulating greens and outstanding bunkering add to the challenge that, thanks to a number of different tee positions, can be enjoyed by golfers of all shapes and sizes.

The Pool Bar and Grill is a charming place for a refreshing beer or a light snack.
The hotel itself (and the staff) is lovely, serving a decent breakfast but as our stay is in Feb, not everywhere was open. Apart from the first night, neither restaurant was open for the duration. The small strip of bars / restaurants is about 15mm walk and is generally pretty shabby. The best facilities are The Padel Club 5 mins away, which has a really nice atmosphere and The Clover bar in the hotel which stays open until 1:30am.
The rooms are lovely and spacious, the hotel staff very friendly and helpful. Pool and pool area are fabulous with plenty of room. The food in the restaurant was outstanding but the bar and bar service a bit disappointing
Hotel was very good, plenty of space and a nice e view over the pool and 18th green. At the time Spain still had mask wearing inside....
We were due to stay at the La Manga Hotel, but we were advised at short notice that it was closed. We were therefore transferred to The Mar Menor hotel and transfers were arranged daily for the golf at La Manga. It was very isolated with limited choices to eat out or drink within a sensible walking distance. The clubhouse closed at 6pm, An Irish bar (with a limited menu) and a single restaurant in the hotel. We understand the difficulty of the situation but we would not advise this hotel/resort over the La Manga one. There was no information in the room at all regarding the hotel facilities, use of the room, the options for food and drink or the surrounding area. Staff were excellent with regard to printing boarding passes and passenger locator forms.
Our stay at Mar Menor was fantastic as expected as i have stayed on this resort a number of times. All of our group were extremely pleased witht the resort, accomodation and staff.
grat hotel with a fantastic pool just what you neen after a hot days golfing, theres 3 or 4 resturants on site with a couple of good bars everything you need is there.
poor hotel not adequate to our requests we arrive at 4:30 pm for check in and we couldn't get anything to eat until 7:00 the hotel bars had nothing the room is really poor we will definitely not be back
Not a 5 star but comfortable 4 star needs a bit of TLC staff fantastic food good
4th time staying here, great location for the golf courses in region. Food good and apartments perfect for golfing holidays

The fairways and greens were sumptious, obviously well maintained and cared for. The fairways are not particularly difficult, but the greens were very tricky with many sloping. Many of the greens were protected by deep bunkers, which we thought were a bit excessive, especially for higher handicap players. There is no clubhouse and if you want refreshment after the game, there is a van by the car park that serves snacks and drinks. However, there was only two tables and they were fully occupied, so we ended up going elsewhere.
shabby
Course was stunning. Only thing that let it down was that the clubhouse was not open.
lovely course but with no clubhouse or facilities to get a drink and something to eat. Overall a very disappointing holiday that we would not recommend to other golfers.
Nice course but no clubhouse so getting a drink was not easy.
Awful venue with a soulless golf course Facilities none existent
Nice course. Again a little to much wasteland
The course is very playable and in good condition but the surroundings are a bit grim. We had a 5 hour round so was very slow and the electric trolleys we had ordered were not available. The pro shop and bar/restaurant are in a shopping precinct and it was not a user friendly experience.
Great course particularly the par 3's. Conditions where good but unfortunately facilities where limited
Tees and Greens were superb but in between is not my idea of a golf course. Too easy to lose a ball in scrub areas and damage clubs. I won't be playing it again.
Some good challenging holes. Only criticism would be the lack of a refreshment buggy.
never had facilities no place to shower,no transfer had to pay taxi 120euros group not happy only played this course once because of transport
Good for average golfers
Obviously the pandemic has affected the condition of the golf course , tees of the day were very poor , obviously not cut often and over used with bare patches covered with sand !! The fairways were average ,the bunkers poorly looked after, however the greens were not too bad .
Fantastic greens and great good fun layout.
course plays well but looks a bit tired in places - in need of some investment
Fairly quiet course, I was supposed to tee off with 3 locals but they let me go off on my own. Plenty of room in front so I wasn't held up. Course was good, although you need a map to find your way around, especially the third tee
Very busy tees, groups seemed to be bunched up, actually queuing on the par 3's Apart from that the course is great. Even for the higher handicap golfer.
A true desert course, again with lots of wasteland but few bunkers. Very well laid out with great greens, great fun to play with some striking holes. Plays relatively short but very enjoyable. A mishit drive will run and run. Staff very helpful and friendly. The only downside is while there is a very good well stocked pro shop there is no bar as its not open post covid, so the after golf basically doesn't exist at the moment other than a trip to the on site Spar for a couple of cans while you wait for your transfer - don't let that put you off though.
Course was very busy and as a result a little slow to get round. Course in really good condition and a good challenge, very good greens, some great holes - relatively generous fairways but miss the fairway and you're in trouble...
Couple of holes had tight driving tees, fairways wide but plenty of hazards! A nice easy walking course !
Greens like lightening, it was raining every day (March) Which was a real disappointment but the course was in brilliant condition. Very green and lush and well signposted. Buggies are expensive €38 shared. Reserve buggies before you go. Long course with villas either side with a lot of waste sand and normal fairway bunkers. 17th hole for Nearest the pin comps only really short hole Toilets halfway round but no drinks trolley.
We played this course three times and enjoyed it. Staff and starters were very friendly. The course is average to hard with a lot of bunkers coming into play. You need to play it more than once to know the best route to the greens. A lovely course and in very good condition. The only problem is the sign posting is not always obvious as to where the next hole is, they could do with larger signs especially from the 14th hole to the 15th where you have to cross the road. Unfortunately the clubhouse has not reopened after COVID so there are no facilities. If you finish after 4.30pm the pro shop is closed and also the toilets.
We played four rounds on Mar Menor and enjoyed all of them. The staff in the pro shop and the starters were all very friendly and helpful. It is a very good course and we’ve enjoyed paying this in previous years. The only problem was that some of the tee boxes were in poor condition and needed to be moved more often to protect them.
The course is too similar, all the holes blend into one. Wouldn’t play it again.
In our opinion this course should not be on the itinerary for holiday makers. When we arrived at the venue there was a car park, a Spar shop, a clubhouse with changing rooms and toilets with an adjoining pro shop. We signed in and got keys for the buggies and teed off on time. The course is testing because if you stray from the fairway you are either in bushes or mainly sand/aggregate which is like playing out of a building site. The greens were in great condition and unbelievable undulations made them a real test. After the round we arrived back in the car park to find the clubhouse/pro shop all locked up with no access to toilets, seating, heating or any form of help. We had to leave the buggies in the compound with the keys in because there was nobody around to take possession. The Spar shop was open but the one man in charge was rude, unhelpful and seemed to think we should leave him to his mobile phone!! We then had a 2hr wait for the taxi with nowhere to sit apart from the cold, hard pavement which we managed to curtail by getting the taxi to come an hour earlier. Overall a very, very dissappointing experience to put it mildly and I cannot stress enough DO NOT BOOK THIS COURSE it will spoil your trip!!
Good course off the yellow tees but on the 2nd round there was a comp and we played off the white tees which was a much harder course. We all felt it was the best of the 3 courses played and no taxi to and from so it was win, win. A real test and enjoyable experience.
The course is fair and well laid out and in good condition. We played 3 rounds with two rounds about 4 hours ten minutes and one slow round which lasted just over 4 hours and 40 minutes however the the marshal sorted the problem group out eventually and came round telling us of the issue so credit there.
Fabulous greens. Unusual terrain. Easy to find rough but lovely to play.
The club shop was pretty good but there was nothing else there. On an industrial estate so not the best looking. The course and greens were very good, the hard waste ground running along the fairways was very hard so when hit, the ball went anywhere but overall very good would play again.
Played twice with different couples which was very good, about 4.5 hours long by English times but about normal here. Greens bit bumpy because they had been tyned but that happens everywhere. Staff in club shop very good.
We love this course, not too difficult but not easy either! Well maintained and great service from the pro shop.
Very average layout, surrounded by villas on every hole. Greens were the best part of the course. Worth a game if you are staying at mar menor as we were but certainly wouldn’t go out of tour way to play it. By far the worst course we played on our trip.
A very mixed bag. Course is in superb condition and looks fantastic – I am a sucker for a good desert style layout. Pro shop is very nice. Bar and restaurant are closed, but there is a Spar selling large cans of Amstel for €1 and the club has left some tables and chairs out. Our tee times were moved up half an hour, but no-one told us, so we got to the tee at our expected 10am time to find a significant number of annoyed ex-pat Swedes who were having a monthly competition also starting at 10am. The concerning thing here is that we could easily have re-arranged the transport had we known there was no bar, and only turned up after the tee time they had moved us to. Finally, the Pro Shop closes at 3pm, this is a big problem as you can only access the changing rooms (and toilets) through the Pro Shop, so you don’t want to take too much advantage of the cheap cans of Amstel whilst waiting to be picked up.
Excellent golf course for all levels of golfer, with buggies we got round in reasonable time. Some great, tough holes with some excellent scenery and beautiful villas around the front 9. Condition was excellent, greens had recently beed treated but this did not spoil the experiance in any way. Best of the 3 courses we played
We only got to play 9 holes as the booking was different from when we booked and the transfers did not allow the agreed tee-time. We were allowed to play without buggies but were asked to finish after 9 holes as the course was closing. I don't understand why we could not play 18 holes but this was not the fault of the course
We enjoyed the Mar Menor course
The course was fine, HOWEVER you need to note and alert clients to the fact that whilst there is a pleasant golf shop / check in area there are no apres-golf facilities in form of a bar or restaurant. Hence I had to call your office and request an earlier pick-up that planned otherwise we'd have been faced with a 2 hour wait with absolutely nothing to do. Thanks to your staff for sorting out, but it would have been much better had we had our first choice of Hacienda Requelme.
Good quality course in good condition. Only exception was some bunkers not in use and were GUR
Distance and fairways needed
Course played a bit easier because at of gur but overall very enjoyable
the course is on the grounds of the hotel so perfect location but the greens werent great and fairwars were to long needed a good cut but hey when you played the other 2 courses first maybe spoilt by them. had a great 4 days away in great hotel and great golf overall thanks simon and yourgolf travel.
We played here last year and there has been a massive improvement in the greens. Ball ran well and true
good course
Seem to be not spending the money on upkeep of the course over played and tired looking torn nets hanging down around the villas just looked a poor third best.
I've played the course a few times and the layout is great and a good test, unfortunately the greens had just been hollow tined so were pretty poor but nevertheless the rest of the course was in good condition.
We teed off at 3.15 and had no one in front of us. Nice quick round. Course was nice but have played better in the area
Decent course (back 9 holes very different to the first). Some water, but not really in play except for really bad shots. Look out for the overly zealous buggy police that pounce on the smallest infraction.
Nice course
We enjoyed the golf. Some challenging holes.
Course was in fab condition and a sturn test
Overall a bit bumpy on the trees but understandable on a resort course with so much foot traffic
Excellent round with some interesting holes, highly recommended.
Complicated set up with paying and collecting buggies. We requested 4buggies and only had 2 delivered. The course is long due to the travelling from green to tee More sign posts required as tees hidden and difficult to find when you leave the greens. Slow service in Club house and not as friendly as other places we visited.
Played here three times and really enjoy the challenge, weather poor for first hour but after that got better and better
Well worth a visit, in good condition
Decent course, well set out and suitable for all level of golfers
The views of the course and the surroundings are beautiful, however no distant landscapes, beach or sea, due to being surrounded by buildings, mainly well kept buildings, so not too sore on the eyes. The holes are quite level, but are made relatively challenging by the shear quantity of bunkers everywhere. Great overall though, thinking of booking up again soon.
slow round fully packed with some people on the course who could not play golf, nearly 5 and three quarter hour round.
Course was busy but moved steadily.
A good course to suit wide range of golf handicaps
