The North Shore Hotel is perched on the Lincolnshire coast with big sea air and even bigger views, looking across the Wash towards the Norfolk coastline and out to the North Sea. It's the sort of place that makes sense for a golf break straight away, because the course is on site, the bar is built for post-round chats and Skegness is less than a mile away when you want a change of scene.

Skegness itself is a proper seaside town, with seasonal events including arts and music festivals, plus plenty of pubs, bars and casual restaurants that work well for groups. You're close enough for a quick taxi into town, but far enough out that the hotel still feels calm when you're back on site.

Inside, it's traditional in the best way: dark wood, comfortable seating and a warm, golfer-friendly feel rather than anything too glossy. The James Braid bar is open all day, serving real ales, lager and snacks, and it naturally becomes the meeting point after a round. Food is classic English fare with local produce where possible, and the Sunday carvery is popular with returning guests.

If you're looking for a coastal UK golf break with heritage, views and an easy routine, play, pint, dinner, sleep, repeat, North Shore is a strong contender.

Who is this for?

Who is it best for?
Societies, friends' trips and couples who want a relaxed, unpretentious golf hotel with a links-parkland challenge, strong food and drink options, and a location that balances golf with off-course entertainment.

North Shore Golf Club

The course at North Shore is not a pure links because parts of it are parkland in style, but it is beautifully maintained and a very enjoyable challenge to play in any weather. The par-71, 6214-yard course is laid out over two loops, allowing the option of a quick nine holes in the evening if you so desire.

It was designed by the legendary course architect, James Braid, who won the Open Championship five times between 1901 and 1910. He transformed a piece of exposed coastline and lush tree lined parkland into a very memorable golf course and, like all good seaside course designers, took into account the prevailing easterly wind - which can cause even the best players a headache - when laying out the course.

North Shore also boasts a short game practice area and a putting green, and buggies are also available to hire from the pro shop.

Accommodation at North Shore Hotel and Golf Club

The North Shore Hotel offers 36 en-suite bedrooms across singles, twins, doubles, triples and one quad, all fitted with TV, direct line telephone and tea and coffee facilities. Most rooms look out over the golf course and the sea, giving you wide, open coastal views to wake up to. The style is traditional rather than boutique, dark wood and comfortable furnishings throughout, the kind of hotel that feels lived-in and welcoming, more classic than boutique with a comfortable, lived-in feel.

The James Braid bar is open all day, every day, serving a wide range of real ales and lager alongside bar snacks. It's the natural gathering point after a round, with windows overlooking the course so you can watch other groups finish while you settle into your first pint. The restaurant serves English fare cooked with locally sourced ingredients, the Sunday carvery is particularly popular, and the kitchen takes pride in keeping things straightforward and well executed rather than overly ambitious.

There's a Residents Lounge equipped with satellite TV for those who want to catch live sport, and ample parking for 100 cars, which matters when you're travelling with golf clubs and a group. The hotel sits in an enviable position on the coast, views across the Wash to Norfolk on one side and the golf course rolling out in front of you on the other. Skegness is less than a mile away, close enough for a quick taxi ride into town when you want bars, restaurants or nightlife, but far enough that the hotel itself feels peaceful and removed.

It's geared towards golf breaks, so the bar, restaurant and room mix suit groups nicely. The bedrooms are configured to handle everything from solo travellers to groups of four sharing, and the whole setup is built around the course and designed to make a golf break as straightforward as possible. You're not dealing with competing priorities or fighting for restaurant tables, it's a golf hotel in the traditional sense, and that shows in how smoothly everything runs when you're there for the golf.

Fortunately, we probably got the best weather imaginable, very hot, but a slight breeze of the sea to make it bareable. The hotel staff were excellent, the course was a decent test & the condition was ok, hotel a bit tired, but would certainly be happy to book again.

We played two rounds and were not rushed on both occasions. The course was enjoyable with varying holes and suited players of all handicaps. My only Cristian was some fairways were a little worn but that didn’t affect our overall view that this is a nice place to go and play

The course is in great condition, particularly the greens. It is well laid out and it is a challenge mentally and skill wise.A special mention to the Pro in the shop who was outstanding. We will definitely return 👍

This is a fantastic course with a bit of everything. The links' hole fairways are really scorched, but that's the way it goes when it's been so dry. The greens are very receptive, lovely, and green and run quickly. It's always a pleasure to play here.

Fabulous two days golf enjoyed by all 20 of our group. We were blessed with good weather apart from winds but expected on the coast. Greens and fairways all in good condition, apart from forking and grooves showing on some greens, but didn't deter from great two days had by all.
